OK, here is the deal. This past week a pigment company came and did some training at our research center in Chicago. It was mainly training on shading with metalics and micas but they also have special effect pigments. They introduced a chrome pigment that you dilute with Isopropyl alcohol and sprays similar to lacquers of old. Anyway I am matching the red on my 86 to go back to original and thought about doing a fade to chrome starting just below the bottom character line fading to chrome. I was also thinking about doing the 15x8 GM ralleys to match. This pigment is the nicest and closest to actual chrome I have ever seen. It is extremely easy to spray and you clear over the top to lock it down. I know fade paint jobs were popular in the early 90's down south just looking for opinions on what you guys think.

I have done several fade jobs over the years, I like them. I think I am going to fade my current Camaro.
I don't like chrome!

I DO like chrome and if it's a nice red (don't care much for factory red) It should look cool. I'm not a fan of ralley wheels but some nice chrome wheels sounds like a bling match.

95 V6 car. Nothing special. Going to do a dark blue on the lower half, and the stock color from there up. It also has 86 Z28 wheels on it now. Going to paint the spokes of them the dark blue as well.

It was something that they did in the transfer between the 80's and 90's . No crome in the paintjob, but they did use it to tint the windows black with fadded crome/mirror look NOT good at all. I just cant get that image off my mind.
I have seen the kind of material you are talking about, and yes it does look very good to crome parts. Just not the whole car in my opinion :-\

I've got nerf bars and a roll bar for my truck that i had for years and needs help. I wonder how the chrome paint would look on them if it last longer than chrome it would be worth doing.

I would love to have this truck mius the running boards

Hmm, got any other pics of cars/trucks painted this way? Looks kind of strange...

how would the glare be if its on the street?
-
Hopefully blinding!

I think this would be a great product for the "2-tone" look. It would be better for the bottom of doors/bed than those ugly stick on chrome pieces. I'd say go for it but its up to you

I am going to spray my rear GM step bumper with the chrome pigment and clear over it and see how I like to work with it. If I do fade into the chrome it will be down low.

OK, what about red with chrome flames???
