Title: Heat up issue.
Post by: 87OldYeller on June 28, 2009, 12:22:47 pm: Problem I am having with my truck, it runs great but once it gets up to normal temp after driving I shut it down and the temp, climbs to almost 240 Deg. Upon restart the temp drops back to noraml at about 210. I am running manual fan, I am thinking about going to electric. But any ideas on the heating issue? I am about to install all new guages. I am thinking about a lower temp thermostat to.

Post by: Irish_Alley on June 28, 2009, 11:52:01 pm: keep the 190 in there you will miss it in the winter lol but 240 ain't too bad if it is make sure you have a mix of 50/50 to much antifreeze will cause you to run hotter and increase your boiling point temp. too much water will decrease you boiling point causing you to boiling over when its not needed but you will run cooler but at the same time just running water ain't going to boil unless you reach waters boiling temp that is 212, but thats where the rad cap comes into play keeping water at a higher pressure will keep the boiling point higher.

Post by: Skunksmash on June 29, 2009, 08:58:10 am: My TBI truck's heat gauge says that 220 is too hot. Oddly enough though, my truck never gets above what i would seem to be about 155 degrees. Strange. I have never had one of these that ran below 180. But they were all carb'd. And i know the heat gauge works fine cause one of the first things i had to do when i bought the truck was get it working with a new sensor and a new wire. Might be something to think about since we likely have the same engine.
