Title: I paid too much to call it a "score" but bought them anyway
Post by: fitz on June 28, 2009, 06:05:46 pm
Bought a set of 5 aluminum slotted 8 lug 16.5" rims today. Came with a spare 33" tire on 1 rim.
Paid $300. Probably not the best deal but they are getting tough to find.
I got hooked on these rims over 20 years ago when I bough a set brand new of for my camaro in high school.
I wish you could buy new 16.5"s now. They still make them in 15" + 17".

Sweet! Now you can be like me lol I have so many sets it's getting ridiculous...nevertheless they are my all time favorite wheel and I am having a set custom built 12" in the rear and 8.5" in the front. $300 is still a score.

Can't have to much of a good thing.
Who are you having make your wheels? Are they new rims or are the widening a used set?

I found a company that will make them new. Once it's all said and done I'll post details if you want.

Does are nice rims... I have always thought that they make the cars look like the old "hotwhels" toys.  ;D

Nice find, I'd like to see what mine would look like with some of those on it.  Like you I had a set on an old mustang and then ended up with another whole set somehow but I've since sold them off and anyway they were 14's and wouldn't go on my truck anyhow

Aluminum slots need to make a comeback. They are one style wheel that look good on just about any vehicle. I can still remember when my uncle put a set of those on his 73 K20 in the late 70s. You hardly ever see slots now.

I hope they don't make a comeback. I like the fact that I roll wheels of the forgotten. Everybody probably got sick of these wheels years ago and now everyone runs bling and really poor camber angles. I'll never get into some of the wheels I see on a daily basis....

I saw a set of these for sale this past weekend at a yard sale as I drove past.  I guess I should have stoped and checked it out.  I also saw a couple of sets at the swap meet at the GoodGuys show.

There is a red truck in the rides section that has these on them.  Don't remember the owners ID though.

Here is a super quick photoshop of what they would look like on a 2wd. I could nto find any good ones with center caps, but you get the idea. This is a pic of 78chevyrado's truck from when I was doing color schemes for him.

If they aren't curbed, I think that's a fine deal.

Old skool rims rock. I roll 15" Convo-Pros and I get comments about them fairly often. I think it's the forged ribs that get peoples attention.
