Title: Engine Accessory Drive
Post by: 81Cheyenne on June 30, 2009, 08:34:40 am
I'm building a 1982 K-24 Camper special.  I bought the truck without an engine so I got a vortec long block crate engine to drop in it.  I also ebay'ed a complete serpentine setup with AC compressor on the driver side but I'm having second thoughts on using it. Running into a lot of headaches matching the newer accessories (alt,AC,hoses...etc) with existing condensor, wiring and so forth. I'm thinking of just selling the serpentine and piecing together a v-belt setup. Anybody care to share any experience with dropping a new setup in an older truck?

The serp setup is worth changing a little wiring and some hoses in my opinion.  I just picked one up for a BBC.

Ok, so where do I get a hose that will fit a 98 compressor and a 82 accumulater? The stock 98 hose has a slightly larger fitting on the accum end and won't fit.  Same deal with the hose that goes from the compressor to the condensor.

Do you have the aluminum or steel setup? I did it to my truck with the aluminun one and it looks great. I always hated the v belt squeal and the oem brackets being flimsy but didnt have the funds for a March setup. You will need metric bolts for the alternator and a reverse water pump. I bought all of my accessories off of Ebay for great prices.

Check a local Hose shop to see if they will make you the fittings you need.

Will the newer compressor work well with the older condensor, evap and accum?
