Hey, I'm quite new to chevys and I'm wondering if the manual trannys have gears that are interchangeable. Right now I have a 4-speed with a granny gear, but I would rather have a 5 or 6 speed yet still retain the extremely low gear. Does anyone know if it's possible to take that first gear out and put it in a 5 speed or if GM ever made a 5-speed with that granny gear?

Go to the topics about drivetrains. ( 1st link) There's a similar question being discussed by some of the knowledge-based members that can give you some help. If you like 5 speeds you might look at a Tremac t56 transmission in the 2nd link. Welcome to the forum!

You can also get a 3 speed with OD its a A833 / My6
Bad thing is (Thanks Chris for pointing it out) it came with either the Chevy Pattern or the Chrysler Pattern to attach to the Bellhousing.

You cant modify the existing 4 speed if that is what you are asking.
You would have to get a NV4500 that is the equivalent with Overdrive.
-
Thanks guys, after some research I think the NV4500 looks like the way to go. Does anyone happen to know the first gear ratio for the 4 speed I have in it now. I would look it up, but I don't know what it's called. It's the 4-speed with a granny gear.

If it's an SM465, the ratios are
1st- 6.56
2nd- 3.58
3rd- 1.70
4th- 1.0
Reverse- 6.09

Yup, I think that's the one, thanks.
