I vote to ship it to Vile.

I started pulling the TH350 out tonight. I forgot what a pain it can be sometimes. I haven't pulled a trans in 15 years! Anyway, I called a shop I know and asked what a rebuild would be(bringing in the trans myself of course) He said $650.00! Last time I had an automatic rebuilt, it was $275.00!!! Man, have times changed! OK, , , now onto my NEXT question, pass. side of TH350(on top of pan/on the case) what is the black cable with the yellowish end on it that bolts to the case? It has a small metal wire within. I assume I have to take the pan off and unhook it inside before lowering the trans any further???
-
That's the kickdown cable.
Just take off the bolt, pull it up and unhook it.
-
Detent cable is the proper name. Just unhook it at the carb and leave it in the trans.
-
Thanks guys.
Vile,
Is it possible to pull the pan and unhook it?

You don't need to pull the pan to unhook it.
Too bad you're not near me, I would sell you a rebuilt TH350 for $350.
-
Bench job is the cheapest way to go. $900 is the going rate for a good rebuild. Try to source a hardened Sprag and have them put it in during rebuild.
-
Like pugsy said you don't need to drop the pan. If you unhook it at the carb linkage and bracket you can just leave it in the trans. If you want to remove it just unbolt it and pull the cable up. Yoiu'll see how it hooks in at this point.
-
Vile,
The detent cable will not pull out of the trans. I don't want to disconnect it at the carb. I pulled the bolt out, lifted the yellow plastic end up, but the cable within will not pull out of the trans! How does it exactly hook into the trans? Please advise and thanks very much.

You need to unhook it at the carb. Why don't you want to unhook it? You don't even need tools to do it.

What he said........

Vile,
I did push the plastic square black cable housing through the carb bracket(toward the firewall) A tranny guy said by taking off the tension, it will release inside the trans. It didn't.

you should be able to pull up on the cable and the little rod comes up.kinda feels like pulling on a spring then i hold it with needle nose pliars and unhook it.good luck 8)
-
You NEED to unhook it from the carburetor. Just pull it forward and let the cable have all the slack it can get.
-
OK, I'll try and unhook it. Thanks again Vile.
