Title: transmission swap II
Post by: chrpmaster on July 03, 2009, 09:13:33 pm
Well after several months I finally got a chance to pick up the 82 c-10 with the 700r4 tranny I wanted to swap into my 76 c-10.  After looking it over I am running into a problem.

My question is since the donor truck has the 6.2 diesel and my 76 has a 350 gasser there seems to be some issues on how to regulate the lockup on the torque converter.  Is there a difference between the way a gas engine controls the tranny versus how the diesel does it?  If so is there an easy fix for it?

Thanks
Andy

Since your 76 isn't set up for it to begin with you'll have to wire it up the same anyway. How were you planning to do it?

Originally I thought I would just need to wire up a 12v supply.  Now it looks like there is more to it.  I guess I didn't realize it would take more than just the electricity.

Any suggestions on how to make it work?

There's lots of different ways to do it. Do a search on torque converter clutch and tcc solenoid. There's also one write up on it in the tech section.

I must  be blind.  I can't find it in the tech section.  Can you post a link?

Its easy as Pie Bro.    So easy to do.   Mine locks up with a switch I built into my shifter.

All you want to do is run 12v to the pressure switch when you want lock-up.     Drop the pan and you will figure it out in 20 secs.

Don't wire it up with a toggle switch.

Thanks Vile for the link.  It really helped me understand what was needed.  It looks like one of these kits will include everything I need to hook up the tranny and make it work on my 76 C10. I am guessing I need the mechanical and not the electronic version of the kit.

Has anyone used one of these kits?  any reviews of which one worked well for you?
