Title: Anyone ever get crappy service from Classic Industries?
Post by: treepete on July 09, 2009, 07:53:10 pm
Im in a looong drawn out dash board problem with these guys and its just getting tedious.
Wondered if you guys have any secrets on getting some service out of them.

I've been totally polite up until now, and I think I need to get stern or something.

Long story short, My Dashes Direct dash is maybe 5% small overall. Like, they let it shrink too far.

All the components had to be forced into place, and finally the OE bezel wont even come close to fitting properly..
Emails, pictures, more pictures, phone calls, left 2 messages and now, nothing. not even a call back.

so yeah.

THanks for your thoughts.
Pete

Those dashes are absolutely garbage and unless you don't care about your truck you would never be happy with how it looks. OEM dashes are still available ya know? If you get no results contact the better business bureau. Then http://www.ct.gov/dcp/site/default.asp

I had some trouble with them a couple of months ago when I ordered some poly motor mounts, power door lock switches and an a/c delete cover. They put the motor mounts in the same box as the switches, and needless to say, the switches were trashed. I tried calling customer service for about a week only to get put on hold or told I would be called back. I started to get a little agitated and sent them an e-mail about the problems I'd had along with my account #. The next day I got a reply to my e-mail and a phone call from a Cristian Carrillo. He was very polite and apologized for the inconvenience. He said that he was sending out two new switches and that I could just toss the damaged ones. The very next day a big brown truck delivered the switches. Because of this I will most likely order from them again. Hope this helps.

Captkaos sells the GM 81-87 dash pads for $355 on this site.
Classic Industries sells the aftermarket ones for $190 and the GM one for $580.
There is a reason why Classic Industries charges $390 less for the aftermarket one. It belongs in a work truck.
I've been playing around with 69 camaros for over 20 years and have been ordering parts from Classic Industries since back when they only dealt in Camaro parts. They were known as Classic Camaro back then.
I've never had a problem with the parts or service but I always bought the GM parts when they were available.

Sucks when stuff like that happens. Hopefully they fix the problem. I had a bad experience with Brothers trucks. Ordered a dash, no email had to check on site to find out it was on backorder (wasnt before) canceled it. Got confirmation it was canceled, still they shipped it out. So i paid for that ine and the one I currently using. It took a month to fix >:( Maybe we should have a thread for bad experiences so others know who to avoid?

Best bet is to just deal with Captkaos here. If he doesnt have it, he knows who to recommend because he had used most of the parts. You do get what you pay for tho, and the prices here are equal too and most of the times cheaper, but good quality. CHris will tell you upfront, he will not sell what he wont use.

I bought several items from here, and had nothing but great experiences. Once I got a budget 5 piece sheet metal kit for a seller on ebay. It was far from what I needed/wanted. I ended up reordering everything plus other parts. I still have some of that crappy kit from ebay. Makes good patch material. Honestly I should of gotten alot more items from here, instead of hunting for them.

I have some leftover Dashes Direct Urethane pieces that are still sitting in a box that are not advertised.  The urethane (rubbery) ones are for a work truck that is it, or someone that just has a driver and is not picky.  Otherwise a Coverlay will be MUCH better.  I will dump any of the urethane one to anyone that wants them for $175 shipped just to get rid of them.  They look fine but they are heavy and are not stiff enough.  If you say KnuckleBuster on Gearz, they used one on that truck.

As for customer service, speaking from personal experience, being nice is the best.
What are you wanting to do, get another dash to replace the one you have?  They have NO control over the product quality, which is why I refuse to sell the urethane version, so IF you do get another one it is going to be the same.  As for 5% small, that is a BIG difference.  The ones I have fit "ok".

The skinned vinyl ones by Dashes Direct are much better and are very close to the factory, we don't advertise them yet, but they will be offered as a option in the catalog.  GoatBeard has one on his truck documented in his interior rebuild.  I will use one of those on mine.

I have been pretty happy with the service. I got a lower column cover for a 73-76 and it was horrible quality. I sent them some photos and they sent me another no questions asked. I do think that their shipping is too high. They quoted me $45 to ship a pair of door panels so I didn't buy them.  Then they had their free shipping promo but they still wanted to charge a $17 oversize fee so I still didn't buy them. I think they make their prices fairly low for people who price shop, then make up for it by padding the shipping.

OK guys cool I talked to them the other day, they agreed to compare it with "what they had in stock" ( although mine drop-shipped from DD) and then let me know about a credit. I think I will go with Chris' dash  if its going to fit better.

I hope I remeber to let you guys know what happens.

I stayed polite, and it worked. Also, I called them for an unrelated issue about a different credit, and they totally handled that. so I guess I was quick to anger. I do like the service.

thanks again,
Pete

New to your scene, never had much luck with them either, and
as said above, the ONLY way to go on the dash is the GM one.
