i am looking to upgrade the exhaust on my 79 silverado with a 6 cylinder.... i have a few questions though. which brand is the best to go with for my truck, i am looking to get the loudest deep throaty sound possible without using glasspacks. ive heard having the exhaust dump towards the ground will help it sound louder but i havent heard a truck with dump exhaust so im not sure ???...Any advice would be much appreciated thanks

Pointing it at the ground usually makes it sound like a garbage truck coming down the road. Exit L&R behind the rear axle sounds best to me. Are we talking inline 6 or V6 in your truck?

Drop i a V8 :P For brands i think anyone will do. Maybe even custom made locally? I prefer flowmaster pipes. The seem to last longer. I really dont know how a inline 6 would sound louder. I have heard some cars done, and it sounds bad. But some were good. I had a 98 grand prix with a 3.1L V6 and it sounded good. Maybe try for 2-1/4 single, or 2" dual pipes and a free flowing muffler and pray for the best. IMO its not going to sound as good as a V8, but you may like it, and thats all that matters. Maybe do a search on youtube for chevy inline 6 exhaust and see if there is some with the sound you like.
