Title: Running wires for a dome light
Post by: BigBadJohn on July 16, 2009, 12:17:28 am
Whats the best way to route the wires?
Did they run them down the a pillars at the factory or what?
Im looking to install just a generic aftermarket one

But that would mean they routed the wires in the rockers correct?
Mine are rusted out and whats left is a it springy so thats not an option at the moment

I belive they were run under neath the carpet and kickplates just above the rockers and around the seatbelt then went up the cab pillars at least thats how mine was ran and when I stripped everything the quickest way I used was tape a wire on the end of clothes hanger if your not gonna drop it through the dome light hole it was kinda diffucult keeping up with that little wire flopping everywhere.

Theres no carpet in this truck and most Ill do is get a rubber front half mat for it
Are the a-frames hollow?

All trucks got a floor mat of some kind and the wires were ran under it and under the door sill plate and up the B-pillar.  You will have a tough time getting it up the A-pillar.

I threw the mat way and there was no sill plate when I got it

John my truck did not have interior lights so I added a dome light that has the two map lights like came in large GM cars.

I snaked the wire up the a-pillar (by the windshield) up to the light.

It was not easy but I don’t have to worry about the wires being pinched.
