Title: Power Window Wiring - help
Post by: Grover 1 on July 19, 2009, 01:35:22 pm
Once again I must come to the well for advice.  Today I installed my newer (91) passenger door on my 78 truck.  The question is the newer door has five wires to the power window switch and my old switch (which I kept intact) only needed three.  What is the difference.  Can I get by with just the three leads to the new switch or will my wife never be able to lower her window... ha, I like being in control anyhow, and make no mistake about it, I'm the boss, just ask me.  Thanks for any ideas you have. - Grover

Did you get the doors off a Suburban/Crew Cab?

Not sure what the door came from, but that crossed my mind.  I took the truck to my mechanic today and he said the two were not compatible.  Can you think of any way this could work?

Well, I can answer my own question.  The later model doors have a 5 pin plug and the older (mine) have a 3 pin plug and they are not interchangeable.  I fixed the problem by going to the wrecking yard and buying two late model doors and the complete wiring harness for that vehicle.  I was going to replace one of my doors anyway do to lots of bondo - now it's an easy fix.  I've been meaning to post some pics of my work in progress but have been busy with work, I'll get them up ASAP - Grover

the easiest thing to do is get a dei 451 window module. you can use your old switches, plus it adds one touch up and down
