very nice!!  How do you like the 6.5?  From what I have heard the banks kit with the 6.5 is a nice little combo!

Nice!  Are you using the Sidewinder for the 6.2L on yours?
Is it a custom exhaust?

thanks for your comments.

the banks sidewinder turbo system was previously installed on the original 6.2 diesel.  it was a simple bolt on change to add it to the Chevy 1995 6.5 crate engine including the banks exhaust package.  all engine accessories were bolted on to the new motor.

were are very pleased with the driveability of our truck. the beefed up 700r4 works very well with the low pressure turbo system.

i estimate that the stock 180hp motor is now producing about 240 hp.  lots of torque and with the 411 gears we are right on with the stock speedometer and engine rpm.  (55mph on the speedo show as 55mph on my gps)

didn't list it but we converted the 4 headlight system to Cibie 165mm euro beam head lights.  we are also in the process of adding Cibie fog lights.

Very cool, Alec. Did the engine bolt right in without mods to the mounts or cutting the wheel wells? I love your project. Thanks for sharing.

The 6.5L is a direct replacement for the 6.2L so it should have bolted straight in.  The last year 6.2L and first year 6.2L are identical other than the bore.

Reason I asked is I have a 6.5L Banks turbo, manifold, hat, intake and have heard the placement makes it fun for installing in a 73-87(91).

the banks side winder fits right in with no modification to the body.  the air box draws fresh air from the front of the truck
the system is designed to add 60 hp to the diesel.

the only problems that i had (besides rebuilding the turbo) was with the two rubber plugs on the intake under the hat,  they eventually cracked replaced them with metal caps. and you can't change all of the glow plugs with out taking off the exhaust down pipe.  the turbo is a low pressure system for normal driving it is rarely on unless I'm using a lot of throttle like going up a big hill, or passing a car.  if you go to banks power you can download the complete installation manual for the turbo system.

I have one for the later model version (not 73-87) which I heard will fit with issues on the 73-87 trucks.
