Title: Recommend me some shocks
Post by: SUX2BU99 on August 04, 2009, 03:31:11 pm
My truck rides like a buckboard. Always has since I bought it 5 yrs ago. I have no idea what the shocks are now but I'm sure they should be replaced as the truck was resto'd 10 years ago now. It's been lowered but I don't know how other than the hangers I see at the rear of the leaf springs. It's not lowered a ton though. I'd like something with a smoother ride so what's a good recommendation? And no, air suspension is not in my budget  ;)

A buddy of mine had Edelbrok IAS on his lowered 85 and loved them.

What about Bilstein HD's?  I'm planning on trying these out next time around.

if you have a stiff ride shocks probably are not the culprit. I'm guessing you have stiff rear springs or possibly a broken spring. I removed a couple of leafs from my rear springs and now it rides like a dream. most of these trucks have pretty stiff rear springs and fairly soft springs in the front. also you may want to see if your front springs were cut or heated to lower it. You could probably tell from a ride in the truck if it feels stiffer in the front or back and start from there.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. As for the springs, I know when I did my diff swap last year, I saw no broken springs. It just seems to ride harsh in front and back. Obviously when I have a heavy load in the back it's much nicer. I haven't thought about removing a leaf or two but perhaps I could just to see. I might try shocks first though.
