I love Rock n Roll, put another dime in the jukebox baby.
I was like 13 when this song came out.  Well, for that matter, I was even younger when most of Skynyrds stuff was on the radio.

I absolutely love the group Van Zant.  Kind of country, and southern rock in today's 'newer' stuff.   That's my kind of country (and its the title of one of their cd's. )

Please tell me about bands/singers that actually matter;  Bands that actually have new, different and decent material.  Bands that haven't gone into recylcler mode.

thank you.

Has it occured to you that fans of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, etc. just want to relive the heyday of these bands when they attend their concerts?

You want to talk about recycler bands.  What about Wolfmother.  I mean they are ripping off the very best of rock, but it's still a rip off.  You have to admit to that whether you like them or not.

Because they don't exist.  And I'm not some 50+ guy hanging on to the past.  I'm 32, and all of the new music out now sucks.  Whenever my dad is in the truck, I turn on Classic Vinyl for him (music from his era, the 60s and 70s) and I can honestly say bands in those times broke new ground when compared to the music that came before them.  And not the oft brought-up bands like Floyd, Zeppelin, and the Doors.  They were good, but I'm talking about bands like the Moody Blues; Creedence Clearwater Revival; Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young; America; and others like them where everyone actually sang in harmony - and could actually sing.  We haven't seen anything this revolutionary in rock music since.  Sorry Stuart but it's the truth.

Bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Joan Jett, Skynyrd, and Van Halen still get airplay today because the music is good.  Most of the junk I listened to in high school and college in the 90s is just that - west coast alternative grunge, where everyone copied everyone.  There were a few bright spots, but not many.  Today's bands just pull from music gone past and try to call it their own.

I couldn't have said it better myself! But I will try anyway!!  ;D
Once in a while a modern band comes along with a few good songs, I repeat once in a while! The difference is the bands from the late 60's through 70's, and a hand full until the late 80's had great albums. To be a great album in my mind means that not all, but most of the songs on it were good or great. As Smitty said, they could sing, they could jam, they could play the piano, drums all of it. The bas stood alone, but was part of the music. Not this crap now where the bass is to much, to loud. In other words every member of the band had talent. Most of the bands out now lack talent. Any single member of on of them that has talent is over shadowed by the rest of the talentless members!

Once again, please only tell me about bands/musicians that actually matter;  Not bands that have gone into "heritage" mode.

For instance, i stumbled upon this massively intriguing, fascinating and captivating documentary while searching for something totally unrelated:

http://www.jaman.com/now-playing/?videoID=0uK92Djx-zKo

i couldn't watch the whole thing and only skipped thru it;  It gets real fascinating when they go to , i think finland switzerland to a school.  If you have time to watch the whole thing, i think it will be worth it.

P.S. there are lots of free movies at this site.
