Title: oil change
Post by: dbusher on August 25, 2009, 04:12:12 pm
How many quarts of oil does a 1984 chevy truck take? I am a noob and just bought a real nice shop manual that has everything under the sun in it except it refers me to the owners manual (which I don't have) to info on changing oil.   I believe its a 305 crate.  Not sure exactly.
Thanks.

4, 5 with the large filter, a little less than 5 with a smaller filter. Pretty much standard for the era.

Any suggestions on Oil Brand and type?   Reading the forums it sounds like I should put 100% synthetic.  I live in Tucson AZ (its hot here) so 10w 30? or 40?

Look for the starburst around the API - SAE on the bottle of oil you choose. The viscosity should be based on climate and engine wear.
