Title: Heat riser on exhaust question
Post by: chronos on August 27, 2009, 07:58:24 pm
My heat riser is busted and I want to wire it open.
The question is what is the open position?
Is pulling the lever towards the firewall 'open' ??
Figure thats the easiest way to explain it

If the bi-metal spring when it heats up would normally turn it clockwise to open you can verify this by looking at spring but in your case the spring is most likely gone, the other thing you could do is with engine running move damper you will know when it's open and closed.

Up should be closed. Why not take it out and gut it?

Thanks Vile , so is it closed in my pic do you think?
Hard to tell for sure from the diagram but it looks like if
I push the lever down 'towards the front of the truck'
it will be open?
I moved the lever and took another pic of the
lever in the position I hope is open
