Title: short water pump bracketry
Post by: 81K10 on September 03, 2009, 11:34:23 pm
Hi, I'm new to this forum and looking for some help.  I have an '81 1/2 ton 4x4 that needs a new heart. I picked up a 1969-79 350 (3970010)
I was going to swap all the acessories from the old motor to the new one. The old motor had mounting long water pump, holes in the cylinder heads for the alternator(passenger side), p/s pump(drivers side) etc.

The new motor appears to be setup totally different. no mounting holes on cylinder heads

Does anyone know where to find pics/info on a short water pump setup with appropriate bracketry?

thanks in advance

Tony.

Tony, Your block may be a '69-up, but the heads must be from something older...all '69's had bolt holes in the ends, this started in some part of the '68 model year.
Using the short pump is possible, however your fan will be way short to the shroud & the alternator mounts way out beside the head (LONG belt), many mount to the ram horn style exhaust manifold. Also, you would have to use an old style power steering pump/brackets. An aftermarket complete set-up may be an option.
A better plan in my eye if your not wanting to swap the heads would be to use a long water pump, an aftermarket alternator set-up (mid/low mount) & a mid '70's-up van power steering set-up. Hope this helps, Lorne

thanks for the info. I wish I'd noticed those heads before I bought that engine.
