I would like to change my my 3 speed w/granny low for a 5 speed trans with OD. my truck is a 2wd swb 1980 c10. Current engine is a 250 inline 6 but will probably be swapped for a '96-'02 350 sbc. I have limited funds for doing this. I have heard that a t5 from from an s10 will work for this swap with just some cross member work. I also assume I will have to switch to a hydraulic clutch set up. I have changed a manual linkage to a hydraulic linkage b4 and it is not a problem. with this in mind has anyone made a conversion similar to this? also what other transmissions will this work from? by the way I have a two piece driveshaft if it matters. I have heard the s10 works because it has the correct tailshaft lengths. Any thoughts on this topic. i would like to avoid driveshaft modification if possible. I am fairly new to any transmision work beyond simple replacement and clutches. I did however however swap a 400 sbc and a t-4 into my old s10 that previosly had a 4 cylinder with a manual linkage. so I am ok with with crossmember building etc but would really like to avoid driveshaft modification especially with the two piece driveshaft. I would like to swap this in before the engine as my 250 runs very nicely and i want to spend lots of money on a ridiculous engine in the future. i just can't do it all at once. Please post your thoughts and sorry for the wordiness of this topic; I just wanted to give as much info as possible.

It is a fairly popular swap. you might try googling inline6 T5 trans or something. Inliners.org had an article on it.

No problem. If you do it post some progress here for other owners!

Will do. I'm just keeping an eye out for parts at this point and really just trying to keep it on a decent budget by finding them early and hopefully at a nice price.
