Title: 454 in a 83 diesel...too many wires
Post by: dragon08 on September 06, 2009, 06:43:26 am
73 454, very simple motor & now many extra wires under the hood & through the firewall.  is there an easy way to identify those i might need? can i just cut the ones i don't need? or is it better to chase them through to the fusebox & pull them?

i'm also having problems with the water temp sending unit.  do i use the one for the diesel or the new gas motor? the gage reads 220, but it doesn't seem that hot.

Are you sure you have the correct wire? Pull it off the sender and check the gauge. If you're sure you don't need the other wires, cut them and label them, then tuck it back in the harness loom neatly. Write on a piece of paper what each wire went to and throw it in the glove box.
