Title: lowered suspension for free
Post by: mooseknuckles on September 06, 2009, 07:07:16 pm
I just finished lowering my '86 wrangler this weekend. did the flip in the rear, managed to reuse all u-bolts, cut off old spring perches off the axel rewelded them under the axel. The leaf spring bolts were too rusted and seized, so I cut off the rivets for the spring hangers and removed leafs, bolted them back on under the axel. I installed a new set of shorter shocks that my buddy gave me, and cut off old bump stops. I then took out the front coils springs and cut a coil and a half off of them. I set my truck back on the ground, put the box back on. The flip lowered it 5 1/2 inches in the back and cutting the coils lowered it almost 2 inches in the front. The front is still too high which I knew it would be, but now I'll order a set of 3" drop spindles, and that should level it out. It was a lot off work but well worth it. It cost me about $30 bucks for 3 cutting wheels, 1 grinding wheel and a can of fliud film. I didnt do the c-notch yet, but if I really need to I have a piece of 8 inch well casing that I'll cut in half to use for the notch.

Be careful reusing u-bolts. I hope you set your pinion angle before you welded the perches back on.

trying to post some pics, its not that pretty. Still have some rust to take care of, cab corners, over the rear wheels. but working on it. It was originally a two tone blue wrangler package, but the previous owner painted it dark blue.
Yeah, how about some pics.
