Title: Where to get more of this stuff?
Post by: Skunksmash on September 18, 2009, 10:42:30 pm
Hi all. I am redoing my carpet panels that stick to the doors, and I have run into a small snag. There is some kind of chrome stripping that runs along the top of them, but mine is damaged on one side, and missing on the other. You can see the chrome strip I am talking about in the first pic here. The second pic has the laid over spikes, that attach the strip to the panel. You just bend the spikes up to take the chrome strip off. I went to two of my local auto interior shops, and both said that the stuff is something of an antiquity. As in, they didn't think they made it anymore. So anyone know where I could get some, or something similar that would suffice?

I gotta think only a junkyard you would be able to find that item. the chrome strip can be removed by bending back the spikey side, then it pulls away from the thick cardboard part. if you find one in a junkyard, you could get it with just a screwdriver, I think./

I found that those things were dang near impossible to get back on straight.

Yeah, I ended up just sewing the vinyl all the way around, and deleting that chrome trim. It was too hard to find, and I was in a hurry to get that particular project finished.

The one in the top pic looks a little dirty, but that was before I cleaned it all up. You can get new carpet/upholstery dirty just installing it.
