Ok guys, I came across this crewcab for $350. It needs the engine gone through ( said it had brown stuff in the radiator and was getting hot, so they parked it and started disassembly, but never finished). The problem is the title he has matched the sticker on the door for the vin number, but not the one on the dash. I had to pull silicone off of the one on the dash to read it. Fishy huh? I got suspicious because the truck has the newer single headlight grille, badges, and a fuel injected 350. Thanks to the wonderful vin decoder on this site I found out it is indeed an 89 3/4 ton.
It supposedly belonged to a local guy who had a fleet of these trucks in his company. The question is, baring that it is not stolen, would it still be worth it for parts alone. Im gonna have the right vin tracked monday, and hopefully it is still in the previous owners name and I can get a title. But if not, any suggestions? Buy it for parts, or avoid it like the plague?

Well it is comes up clean i would jump on it. Get what you want paart it out then sell the rest for scrap.

Sounds like someone swapped VIN's and the original is gone.

There have been alot of parts swapped on this truck. The glove box has got a different number than the other two. It looks like the door has been changed. I think the vin is right on the dash because of the fuel injection. The vin number decoder describes the truck to a tee, and it doesnlt look like anyting under hood has been swapped. All of the smog plumbing is still in tact, and the 2500 and Cheyenne badges are correct for the 89. Its also has only one tank. Ive never seen an 81 up with single tanks, but that may be because it was the base model. Thinking maybe the P O changed the door on this one from another, and when he sold it he went buy the title on the door, not the dash. That being said, he may have been that dumb, but I suspect foul play here since the original vin was covered up by the silicone type substance and a peice of paper. The door swap is far fetched, I know. The foul play part is probably more correct. Wishful thinking. I could use the parts, but dont want something I cant get rid of because of no title. Ive already been that route.

go for it choptop you need another toy lol

I'd buy it for the bed alone. Seems to be the right one for my 85, single tank side. Let me know if you get it and don't need the bed...

It is worth 350 in parts. strip it, cut up the rest and scrap it. don't need a title to scrap parts.

don't need a title to scrap parts.
True, but you still want to make sure that the truck is legit. You don't want to be the one hauling it to the boneyard if it turns out to be stolen.

Fitz,
Maybe you need to read the post before posting.

if you end up buying it...I'll buy the cab from you and a few other odds & ends

Id make you a heck of a deal on the cab, but picking it up will be the biggest issue for you. Nice thing about the trucks here is very few have cancer. Im more interested in the fenders and F.I. system, but Joesgarage71 has a cure for the FI part. Just need a couple checks to come in,lol
