Title: Hot Rod magazine Drag Week
Post by: HAULIN IT on September 21, 2009, 10:50:59 pm
Well we had the only square-body truck there. It was a BLAST! We put about 1200 miles on the truck & 13 - 1/4 mile passes during the week. My wife (driver) won the "Quickest Olds" award with a 12.12@109 on the last day. The event coverage is to be in the January '10 issue. Here is a link to a few pic's, check out my roll-out box that held all of our tools, parts & luggage...it was less than 5 minutes from in the truck to set-up & vice versa.  www.1320video.com/gallery/DW09Friday/IMG_1801 http://www.1320video.com/gallery/DW09Thursday/DSC00282

Wow, I didn't even know this was going on.  I live about 10-15 miles from National Trails, and have been there several times watching races.  I wish I would've known you were in the area, I would've come to watch you! :'(

Glad to see you took a trophy from there, Congratulations!!!!

Awesome, Lorne! Man, you got that truck DIALED in. So you figured out the best shift points on the new 4L60E? The 12.12 seems a fair bit lower than your last times I saw which I think were mid-12s.

Man, low-12s.....I can only dream   lol

Being during the week was bad for spectators...there really wasn't many, everyone there was pretty much with a vehicle on the trip.
Sux, I have got a handle on the program & have played with the shiftpoints some. The outcome is this...The engine makes more power/goes faster as I increase the RPM's & is obviously able to go conciderably higher before it runs out of steam, however a stock parts/balanced Olds 455 has no business going to 6000 rpm's & won't last long taken there very often. I typically leave it about 5400 as shift points & cross the line about the same when she is doing regular bracket racing & it runs high 12.20's-low 30's. If I run it up to 5700 or so (like I did on the last day :D) it does closer to the 12 flat. A Two hundred RPM increase turns out to be real close to a tenth, 5200 it does 12.40, 5400 - 12.25, 5600 about 12.15, sooooo 5900 would???
The traction at Muncie Raceway was first class, we had several 1.63 60' s, which is an all time best. At this point I'm still not impressed with my new torque converter, it was allot of money for what is an average of 2-3 hundredths in the 60' & really nothing down track. As the air gets better in the next couple months I'm going to run it up to 5700-5800, we have gained a couple tenths here & there since last fall, so we should get a few more high 11's soon.
Capt. I just met Kyle on the trip, did some small talk & thanked him for covering the event, seems to be a real nice guy! Lorne
