starting the truck this morning to go to work, everything is going fine for the warm up, but just as i let it hit idle again it chokes out and stops. i try to restart thinking its still cold, but it wont fire, just keeps spinning with no fire.
i thought i flooded it so i buggered off for a bit(called work to say why im gonna be late) and still didn't work
Long story short, im getting no power to the spark plugs, I've changed the cap, rotor, coil, basically everything that comes out on the top from a working truck(buddy who isnt using it for a week or so) and still no spark.
im at wits end, im getting power on the wires up until the plug into the distributor, and nothing is going out.
any ideas?

pic-up coil or icm both are under the rotor. i would change out the whole distributor with your buds and see if it works then. to change out the coil you have to pull the distributor apart anyway so just swap them out if it works it eather on or the other autozone can test the icm i know for sure and the coil I'm sure they cant but they might be able to

As Irish says, swap them things.
I always, always, keep an extra HEI distributor, plug wires and all, in my garage....get them from a salvage yard for $20. It takes about twenty minutes to do a swap and time it in and when you have time, you can see what was wrong with the other distr.
I've had to do this before and that was with a brand new $100 distributor from NAPA. Put a $20 replacement in and she fired right up.
