What are your thoughts on this idea. I have an 84 C10 and am currently building a 350 with hopefully 300 hp when done. Right now the truck has a bone stock 700R4 tranny and I plan on putting in a 4 or 5 speed manual in the 700R4's place because i dont think the automatic will hold up to this power and its starting to slip. I'm not going to throw out the 700R4 but keep it for another project. So I guess my question is are there any major issues putting a manual in place of an auto? or should I just get the automatic rebuilt? lets hear your 2 cents thanks marc :D

Rebuild the 700R4, 300HP is nothing for an upgraded 700R4

500HP is nothing for a upgraded 700R4, which anything short of a T56 or Richmond or Tremec will not handle it if your talking 5 speeds, and 4 speeds I wouldn't even consider if it is going to be a driver.

alrighty il stick with the 700r4. now another question should I invest in a new torque converter possibly one with a higher stall speed? thanks marc
-
Yes on the converter but it all needs to be matched for what you plan to do with the truck! Call up some companys that build converters and give them you motor specs and truck specs and what your intentions are for it and they will build you one or recomend you one!

As Screamin86 stated, you want the torque converter stall to match you application. If you are going for 300hp crank power the stock one will be ok.

Just dont go too nuts with the cam
