hi all, new to the forum but not my first 73-87 chevy. to make a story as short as possable, i had a 81 4x4 shortbox with the 4 speed and had to get rid of it, and 2 years later finally got another truck in this body. its a 73 4x4 longbox, only sad thing is that its a 3 speed columnshift. i realy do prefer sticks and i want the creeper granny gear back so i'd like to go back to the 4speed i had in my old truck. from what research i have done, i have the NP205 transfercase which seems to be the better one.
i have access to one of these transmissions with a 205 already on it, but i dont know if i'll have to change the driveshafts because of possable length differences in the transmissions or if i'll need to search out a crossmember or if my origional will work. i know this would be easy with a donor truck but havent found one local, and just want to make sure if i need any different parts, that i have them before i tear it apart. any help is much appreciated and many thanks in advance.

low and behold, finally post for info, and not even 24 hours later i find my donor truck, for free!!! just a rusty broken frame with no body, but has a smallblock, 4speed, and 205 Tcase and it was a 3/4ton longbox truck to boot!
just a off question, anybody ever seen a 3 speed columbshift 4x4 chevy before? this is the only one i've ran across.

I have seen a few column shifted 4x4s.
didn't see your previous post soon enough, but finding a donor simplifies the problems if it is complete.

i measure the total length of the 3 speed and Tcase versus the 4 speed and Tcase, they came out the same, so i should be able to use my 1 piece driveshaft still. the Tcase in my 73 bolts to the passenger side frame rail, and this chassis i have seems to just let the transfercase rest ontop of a skidplate. i'll probably just use my Tcase on the 4 speed then i dont have to worry about Ujoint size difference between the Tcases or the different way they're held to the chassis. get that done this weekend and then sell the 14bolt and dana44 that it has :)
