Nice!
-
Cool.
I like step side trucks. :)
Are you planning to get the bed painted to match the color of the cab?
-
Nice ride. What are your plans for it?
-
aww shes sexy i want my k5 2 sit like that. 8)
-
I want to paint it a dark charcoal gray and get some black rims. Then just make all the accents black. And since the frame and underneath is so clean, I eventually think it'd be cool to take it to a few car shows around here once i get it all lookin nice on the inside. But of course, bein who I am, it's gonna get muddy at least a few times! ;D
-
I took some more pictures of my truck today just testin out my new camera.

My custom made door panels LOL.
-
What sort of exhaust do you have rigged up? Truck looks good btw!
-
I have no clue what it is besides dumps, but its about to go, I want it louder LOL.
-
Nice! The louder the better! You've got cool neighbors right?
-
Do you have any sound clips or vids of your exhaust? My 94 F**D had a bullet exhaust like that and it sounded awesome.
-
hey are those old gas pumps in the background in the top pic? looking good. wicked sweet door panel. lol
-
No I don't have any sound clips of the exhaust, but when I get everything back in and runnin I can do that for ya. It's loud and all, but not up to what I like lol. Ya those are some old gas pumps in the background, cool huh? Ya, my truck isn't as loud as my boyfriends old 73 camaro he had. It sounded like a pro mod. MAN i miss that car LOL
-
now I've seen shock mounted like that before is there any pros or cons to that?
-
Is your driver side rear hard brake line twisted or is it the pic?
Irish, are you talking about the staggered rear shocks? (If so then that is stock, GM did that to counter wheel hop).
-
lol nope talking about the shock being upside down
-
sweet ride babe, man theres no girs in new zealand with trucks like yours haha, sweet ride, love your style
check out my new silverado, i posted just before you did
Chevys are so uncommon over here, not many at all, as when they come in we have to convert to right hand drive, that costs around 10 grand and then any parts we have to ship from the states all the way to Australia then to new zealand
anyway hope u like my one
murphy
-
oh , what size whhels and tyres do you have no there?looks wicked
-
Always loved the look of 4x4 step sides with big meats filling the wheel welds. Nice truck, any picks of the working side of the wood bed?
I read the post a couple back asking about the "odd" shock installation. I went back and looked 3 times before finally reading the post that pointed out one was upside down before I could see a problem. Guess its time for bed for me.
-
"one" Na they both are in the rear, but i got to say i kind of like the door panel not the color of it but i haven't see one like customized like that before
-
I don't know about the shock thing lol.. I haven't really gotten to drive my truck all that much since I got it in Oct.. I didn't wanna screw it up even more.
I have 16 in wheels with 38 in tires on there right now.
I went out there and looked at my hard brake line and I guess its just the pic because its straight lol.
LOL.. ya the doorpanels were all messed up so I had to find a fabric to cover them with for the time bein til I can afford new ones.. But it matches my seat covers, i have the mossy oak ones with the pink trim ;D
its original LOL
-
Oh by the way heres a pic of the bed, needs to be refinished
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r210/cowgirl4christ1106_2007/9730_160834718192_582743192_2781694.jpg)
-
man, i must say that is a very nice truck and that fact that a girl owns it makes it that much better
-
im in love, i love stepsides, i love lifted or lowred stepsides, and i love chicks who own a lifted or lowered stepside keep up the good work and show more pics of anything you do when you do it 8)
-
lookin good, you get that 350 in yet 8)
-
Well the 350 is out and on the engine stand finally! yay! gonna start tearin it down today if it doesn't rain. It's gonna look a lot better than it does by the time I'm done with it thats for sure, but here it is:

-
Lol, is that garden hose that the PO had running from the water pump?
-
It sure does look like it huh? I think it is. This dude ghetto rigged everythin! LoL.. But I have those braided steel hose covers now to cover those up. Thank goodness. Motor is almost torn down completely.
Heres pics from today:

Not a brake line?
-
OH that. LoL. I'll have to go look at it tomorrow for you and let you know. I thought u were talkin bout somethin else my bad :D
-
that pic is a pic of a e brake cable
-
that pic is a pic of a e brake cable
Beyond the E-Cable
-
yep that's an easy way to make a brake line fit that's to long. i did almost the same thing on my 82. works like a charm.
-
I would not like having brake lines like that. Too risky of getting it snagged while wheeling or unavoidable debris on the roadway. Even though you will still have front brakes, your stopping distance increases. Plus it shows lazyness because you didnt want to make it fit right. It does go well with the garden hose used for the heater hose.
-
i hate those 78 and older"i think" engines with the dip stick on the wrong side lol maybe it ain't that bad if the truck ain't lifted but its a pain when it is and you jump up on the wrong side to check it only to find the dip stick is on the other side then you shimmy down the bumper and slip and bust your knees grrrrrr
-
LOL yeah its all ghetto rigged, but that's what happens when u get someone else's toy. But I'll fix it all eventually.
But I took the heads to the machine shop, they're gettin rebuilt and sandblasted then painted, so they'll be good as new. Get them back Monday. I sanded the block and got some engine primer on there since its supposed to rain today, that way it doesn't rust. But we are gonna get back on it tomorrow. We found out that it IS the rear main seal that's causin the oil leak, so it sucks, but at least now we know. Well, here's some more pics of the motor for yall, I will keep the pics comin!

-
Nice Stepside, what color are you going to paint your truck, I kind of like the gray. I also like the rear mount gas tank but where do you fill it at.
-
I see that you're painting your engine, but haven't disassembled yet. Aren't you going to rebuild it while its out? Are you just going to try to rering it and hone it yourself? After asking many trusted friends, the story I've gotten is that its worth the money to send it to the machine shop to have it bored and honed. They also clean up the block, check for cracks, and usually paint the block for you. They will also often install your camshaft bearings. Just curious what the plans are. If you get by without sending this to a machine shop I'd love to see how this turns out. Best wishes either way!
-
JessesTrucks: Well for now, I am just gonna get the bed painted silver to match the cab. But once I can afford a good paint job, I am debating on either a sunburst orange or a really nice blue. As for the gas tank, it still has the filler neck on the side of the bed, but I am plannin on remounting it in the center of the bed floor that way it doesn't take so long to fill up.
Jaredts: Yeah the only reason I primered it was to see how it took. But upon taking the block to the machine shop today to get the cylinders honed and the blocked checked out we found out that my block wasn't stock. It was bored .060 over!!!! Some of the cylinders had a lip in them, therefore it needed to be bored even more in order to make the cylinder walls smooth, but .080 over is pushin it with a small block. So the guy made me a deal and I am just getting a brand new short block for $350.00
So all this work about rebuilding my old motor went out the window and I am getting a brand new short block Friday morning! My heads are already there getting rebuilt, so by Friday I will have a brand new motor basically. I'm kinda excited though, less problems to worry about and it's easier than nickling and diming with parts here and there. So that's the newest with my truck, lol. It should be back up on the road sometime next week
-
Thats a pretty good deal on that block. Did you happen to grab the casting number off of it and check what it was?
-
Off of the new block that I am gettin or my old one?
-
New block.
-
No he had a whole bunch up there, tomorrow we have to take him the main caps that went with my old block, so if he has started putting it together for me I will try to get the casting number. ;D
-
$350 sounds like a good deal. I assume thats for a block that hasn't been rebuilt, since the machine work to rebuild one is quite a bit more than that. If you're getting something even half-way decent thats a steal.
-
Yeah, it's a good deal! I'm so excited! I can't wait to be drivin my truck again
-
It will be even nicer to say that you built the motor.
-
very nice truck, i love the stepside...
-
Lol, i feel you about the crap people hobble together to keep these on that road, my truck had 1 gauge power wire for battery cables??? Thats was an interesting find, got that fixed though...
-
looks good. Those pics are making me want to paint my engine too but I don't wanna pull it out just for paint. :)
-
Lol! Yeah this has been an awesome project so far and I finally learned how to tear down an engine. It was cool. Thanks for the compliments guys! Yeah I hate when you buy someone's toy, it makes me want to go out there to my truck and tighten up each and every bolt I can find, lol. Even the lug nuts were loose. :P I swear. LoL!!!!
78 Chevyrado: Aww come on you can do it! It will make it look so much better! ;D
-
Well I went and picked up my brand new motor and my rebuilt heads this mornin!!!
Here they are

apparently theyre all here and Texas. Mine will wrench right beside me if needed, and probably will be doing alot of sanding come spring.
-
my wife will try to but, I'm kind of a control freak and if she don't know whats shes doing i have to do it for her to make sure its right. many times shes changed her oil before i guess thats a step, i think its more of a fear she might hurt herself thats why i do it, heck shes even tore down her dads 96 cav. 2.2 while he was at work then was able to put it all back togeather
-
i seen this post i thougt that was my box .....these trucks rock

Well my motor is in and should be ready to crank up before the weekend! Yay! I also got my new carpet, heat shield and sound deadener from yesterday and I have that installed now as well, just have to put on the rubber booties for my shifters. I put the old seats back in there just to see what it's gonna look like, but today I am putting in some brand new racing seats! WOO!

-
Thanks! I will definitely add a vid of it runnin!@ It should sound good with that hot cam in it, but I HAVE to change my exhaust, I like it loud! 8)
Pullin81- thanks,! Yeah i have wanted a big ol 4x4 for a long time! finally got one! ;D
-
Awesome!
Your headers didn't fit right?
-
What do you mean? are u referrin to the dent in that one? it was like that when i got it lol.
-
The dent is for spark plug clearance.
-
Nice! Good job
-
.
-
I meant that the flanges are cut. Does that help resist warping and leaking header gaskets?
-
OH yeah it helps to prevent them from warping, since they are just the el cheapo's from oreillys
-
as far as the header flange goes i did the same thing and put the stock gaskets on and it works way better than the alumminum ones and the soft seal ones. So far it has been 4 years on the truck and 10 on the chevelle
-
Nice truck and great to see you getting your hands dirty in the process,i cant get my other half anywhere near my truck, she said i lifted my old blazer because i knew she was too short to get in.. ;D
Another point i like about this thread, not once have you been subjected to any "male chauvinism" which i think sums up what a good friendly family orientated site this is..keep up the good work.
-
Well, my truck has been runnin for a couple weeks now. It sounds good and strong with that cam in there, I'm in need of new, louder exhaust though, LOL. It's too quiet for me. But here are some recent pics. This weekend I am getting a fleetside bed that is rust free and primer black w/ a roll in bed liner. Trading my stepside for it. Then my truck will go flat black as well to match it. I am excited!

Thanks guys for all the support!
-
Really turned out nice!! congrats!
-
Nice idle. What muffler is in the video?
-
Sweet!!
-
so is it going to see any mud?
-
Great Looking truck :)
-
The truck has like 18 in glasspacks and then dumped. It doesn't sound bad when you rev it up, but I want it louder, LOL I don't know if it will see any mud, the place we used to go is shut down now, so if I find somewhere I will prolly take it trailin, but not dog it too bad. haha. Thanks guys! ;D
-
Definitely need to change up that exhaust. It almost sounded like straight pipes. Any thoughts on what you want to put on there? When you get the new bed, ever thought of making it match the cab instead? I do like the color on the cab.
That red cable dropping into the passenger side header, that wont melt from the header, will it? Looks dangerous.

I'd keep the stepside personally....
-
I am wantin single chambers. Ya that pic was takin right when I first started it, it was melted, but now I have a new positive cable running up the frame that is away from the headers. I need to update my pics of the engine bay. But today I got the passenger side fender and door sanded and primered, and my new sending unit and and the gas tank back up. Getting the fleetside bed put on in the mornin! I will update with pics tmrw night.
-
Well the new bed is on! I LOVE IT! It looks so awesome. It turns out that I have a 6 inch lift, not a 4 inch. I have a 4 inch suspension and a 2 inch body.... So that's even cooler! I have almost all of it sanded and primered with a 1st coat. Here's a look at the progress...

It's lookin good! The fleetside looks good on that truck.
-
I have always loved fleet side over step don't know why but I love them
-
Yeah same with me, I liked how the step side looked and all, but to me, the fleet side just makes it look more aggressive and a lot better. But I guess it's just a matter of opinion to people. But no matter what, I love it now! ;D ;D
-
I love my stepside, but that looks good. Maybe its just because the color matches now. Nothing like a cold beer while working huh?
-
looks good, I like the stepsides on the 2wds but the 4x4 the fleetside is much nicer and like you said it makes it look aggressive.
-
LOL yes there's nothin like a cold beer and workin on your truck, especially when its hot outside! I am thinkin about goin satin black with pink pinstriping or something similar, I want my truck to be original and to where people will know its a chicks truck and not think its my boyfriends or somethin lol... but thanks for the compliments yall
-
just cause theres a pink stripe down it doesn't mean a chick drives it. have you seen broke back mountain, well i haven't nor do i plan to but its the same ideal just cause he a hard working cowboy doesn't mean he like the soft touch of a female ::). most the time when i see a lifted truck or a truck I'll look at it from the corner of my eye and see if i see long hair if i see that then i take a better look
-
Hahahahahaha that was pretty funny right there...
Yeah, you have a point. I AM gettin a sticker for the windshield that says "Cowgirl Cadillac" lol... I've always wanted that sticker on a lifted up truck. But I'll eventually figure out somethin for the paint job.
-
I like the new bed much better. Although the way a step side looks best to me is on a truck lifted like yours, i still like the fleets better. Nice progress!
-
Glad you're getting your project together, and I also like the fleetside bed. Is that just a rattle can primer black or what? Have you driven it much with the new motor?
-
Thanks yall
Yeah thats just the first initial coat of rattle can primer. The bed was already primered black when I got it, and he had primered it like 10 yrs ago so it is all faded. I haven't had a chance to finish sanding and primering the cab forward because of the wind we've been havin. But once we get to the final coat we'll use an air compressor and shoot it with some flat black prolly.
-
The truck is looking good. I like the fleetside on it as well. Keep us posted with the progress.
-
Cowgirl Cadillac now that will sell the point, or even if its one of those stickers "silly boys trucks or for girls" i don't like them at all but it lets you know this ain't no dude I'm about to role up on
-
LOL yeah I used to have a sticker on the back glass of my old truck that said"Silly cowboys, trucks are for cowgirls" hahaha....
-
Howdy from Dayton Ohio!
Really liking your project, your doing a GREAT job on it. Got a question........What's with the no radiator fan shroud and the fan swinging around in mid air? Have you got one that you haven't put on yet? That may be a requirement when it starts getting hot down there and it also covers up a dangerous moving part inside the engine bay.
Keep up the good work and have fun all the way!!!!!
-
The truck didnt come with a fan shroud, I really need one, But I am wanting to put an electric fan on there and get rid of the flex fan. That fan already sliced open my hand when I was puttin it back on, so I hate it now lol. >:( But I am needing one. I took those last recent pics with the motor runnin so that might look like the fan was floating lol. But thank you for the compliments! ;D

One other thing I noticed.... The alternator 2 wire regulator plug is just hooked together? Are you/have you done anything different with that. The one wire needs to be hooked to the battery to sense and regulate the output of the alternator and the other needs hooked to the charging system idiot light or if there's no light an ignition source but thru a diode or resistor otherwise the truck will stay running when you shut it off.
-
My flex fan is about 3-4 in from the radiator and Ive ran it like that for years without a shroud without a problem. Even in Texas like heat.

Im not quite understandin what you mean, but I know the guy told me that the type of alternator he had on there would only charge the battery when you are drivin it...? I want a regular on on there, and the truck has a kill switch goin to the coil so yeah when u turn the key off, it still runs til u flip the kill switch.
-
That's why the truck won't shut off. You need to install a resistor. You can pick it up at radio shack. I just did this on one of my trucks. Get this one http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062291&CAWELAID=107594274

O0o0o0o00o0o well that makes sense now, lol. Thanks! Hopefully I can get some more work done on it today!
