Hello everyone,
just joined today, I have been looking to join but my comcast account hasnt been able to accept the email so i finally got my college email to work and I joined.

I just wanted to say hello to eveyone and ask a few questions.

i have a 76 C-10 with a 250 and a 4spd. I bought it on ebay because I really wanted a truck for the snow and it was Manual everything, brakes, steering tranny. Just what I wanted(my first car was/is a fiero. really fun but kind of a pain in the ass in the snow) anyway the truck is from North Dakota and has some rot issues (typical of these trucks, the rockers, middle cab mounts and floors) but it made it the 2000mi trip with only the master cyl. crappin out on me. My step dad and I brought it up to shape mechanically, fron pads rear shoes, lines and master, and wheel cylinders, tune up stuff, and water pump is on its way to advanced auto. But I am kinda concerned with the cab falling onto the frame. The other mounts by the radator and back of cab are practically perfect but the middle 2 are rather bad they are fine in the middle under the bushing but the "arm" that extends to the rocker is no longer there. I really want to fix this the right way but would like to kinda wait til I have the money to buy the parts, my step dad is a machinist and has a welder and was a mechanic so he was all the stuff to do the body work the right way but I just want to be able to drive it until I do it the right way, will that really screw it up or am I ok if i blast the underside with motor oil?  I kinda figure it will be ok i mean it has lasted this long but I dont want to be driving and have the whole thing flex and not be able to ever restore it to be a nice truck.

Another thing I was wondering is with the 250 has anyone ever cut the heads of a small block to fit them on it. It wouldnt be for a while but I really like that 6banger and kinda want to have a unique thing. I know pleanty of people have 350's and they are great motors but most people look at a 6 and figure its junk.

One final question, I have hurd great things about the replacement panels that the store here (http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/) has but I am going to probley need doors as they are pretty rotten on the bottom and the area where the hinges bolt on are all cracked on one side due to a barnjob that the previous owner did so i would rather the whole door not just the replacement bottom. Are these pretty good, I know they wont be as good as the factory but are they pretty close.

Thanks Vince,
I have learned a lot about these trucks from this site and hope to continue to do so

splitting a V8 head can be done, but  you are looking at A LOT of investment.

Our doors will come from Goodmark.  regardless of getting New GM or whatever, you will have to fit anything other than what came from the factory on the truck.  I would use them on my truck or I wouldn't sell them.

No idea if it would work chop, but they would still have to be welded together.

I was just thinking the 4.3 heads may be cheaper

4.3 wouldn't be siamesed ported. Right? The 250 has 2 siamese ports so you'd have to use the 350 heads

Hello from Oregon.

That's cool. 6 cylinder, huh? Not my cup of tea but I can respect the fact you wanna be unique. I just love the throatly growl (or even the highway-purr) of a V-8.

As far as driving it is concerned: It seems as though you could keep driving it no problem. I mean, it went 2,000 miles without breaking... Plus with your fathers technical expertise he could most likely fix anything that went awry.
