I was wondering if a full tailgate skin, actually replaces the tailgate? the situation I am in, is I have a 88-98(stepside) bed that the tailgate is pretty bad off. I do know I won't be able to use my tailgate etc. but thats not so important to me as the truck sits low enough that I can easily put anything I'll ever need to in the bed. Also if it truly does replace you're tailgate I would like to see what people did to brace them as Im sure its quite flimsy.

The skin is only the front portion of the tailgate. It is to repair the face of the tailgate.

Thanks I thought it sounded funny when the guy I called said it would replace my "stock" tailgate. I had thought it was only a cover, but when I thought of it, I had never really seen the inside of a bed that was closed up and shaved.

Most tailgate skins are intended to be used if you want to weld the tailgate closed. Those are only the outer portion of the tailgate and will require bracing behind them.
