Title: Where can I find my motor info?
Post by: JOKER on October 16, 2009, 01:39:16 am
I just bought this 87 Chevy 1 ton p/u. The problem I am having with this beast, is nothing is matching up. I have a steering pump bracket that only has 1 bolt holding it on and can not even tell anyone what year and size motor I have  :-[ .. So I can not find a replacement for it..
Also the fender emblem says deluxe custom 20, which I thought meant it was a 3/4 ton.  But I am having so much trouble matching up parts it is unreal..
I just temperarly replaced my brake pads (going to replace disc and rotors before putting on good pads.), they match up to 1/2 ton. abunch of other parts were matched up at 3/4 ton.. Is this normal?? Or did they old owners really mess this truck up??
Any advice would be great.
  Thanx. Joker.

What I mean about the motor is what year? and how do I make sure it is a 350? The reason I ask is I think in the past someone has done a motor swap.
Like for example the power steering bracket does not even match up with the motor.

Under the alternator on the engine block is some numbers, post them.  If it is original to the truck with TBI on the back of the block is will have a 5.7 or 5.0 raised on the casting but are hard to see if still in the truck unless you have a small inspection mirror.
