would i be able to stick my turbo 400 out of my two wheel drive truck into my 4 wheeler? I currently have a turbo 400 in my 4 wheeler , but i dont know what kinda condition it is in .I got this custom rebuilt turbo 400 out of my 2 wheeler sitting and taking up space.I've been keeping it as a back up but wasnt really sure if the swap was even possible.

You should be able to do it. The only difference being the rear output shaft, and the tailhousing.
Problem is..... how good are you at automatic transmission work?
In order for the swap to take place you have to completely disassemble both transmissions to swap out the transmission output shafts. I do mean TOTALLY disassembling the entire transmission. After you take all of the clutches out, there is a 12-point headed bolt that holds the center support in the case, and the valve body has to be removed to get to this bolt.
Also, be careful when you remove the valve body that you dont lose the 5~6 BBs that are in the case. These are actually check balls, but look like stainless steel BBs.
One other thing that may be different is if the 4x4 used the 6-bolt torque converter cover. These are kind of rare, but if your 2wd has the 4-bolt torque converter cover, nothing will be harmed by using it in the 4x4. The biggest problem is not being able to use the strut rods that connect to the engine mounts. But then again, your truck may not even have these, in which it is a non issue.

x2 get a ATSG manual for the th400 also known as a 3L80 transmion.. they are ~25.00
IMO the hard thing you got going for you is the check balls.. the easies is pull hten VB off with the tranny upside down and snap a picture on how they were placed.
you can use vasaline or ball bearing grease to hold the balls in place on install

From the sound of all the work involved it would be my choice to get the TH400 in the 4 wd rebuilt to the specs similar to your 2wd TH400.

the biggest pain is messing with the cast iron t-case.

What is the purpose of the transmission strut rods?

I assume to help strengthen the whole assembly.
I have never had a square body truck that used them.
My '94 K2500 has them so I assume it is for a heavy duty application.
