Title: Newbie looking for a CHROME winch bumper
Post by: beulahboy on October 29, 2009, 09:07:24 pm
Hey, guys, I have been lurking around for a while and decided to join in! I have a great 86 GMC High Sierra SWB K1500 with chrome stock bumpers and I want to find a CHROME winch bumper to hang my 8274 on.  I am not really having much luck. I really don't want to drop major $$ on it....
Have any suggestions on where to go?
I have a Warn winch bumper in PERFECT shape for it, but it is black and not exactly what I want for my truck...
Any feed back will be appreciated!

Why not check into having it chromed?

Thanks for the reply, Low!  I am having a hard time finding anyone close that chromes down here on the Gulf Coast (Pensacola, FL) The closest I have found is somewhere in Georgia and the guy said I had to ship up there to him to look at before he could give me an estimate....  NOT!!!
Have a great evening!

Thanks, Beastie! I haven't had the truck but about 4 months. I took those rims and tires off and went back with the original wheels with beauty rings and put some narrower tires on it . Really made a tremendous difference on the looks.   I always wanted one of those trucks when I was much younger, but couldn't afford them when they were new- still can't hardly afford it now, but the price has come down quite a bit!! ;)

I hear ya, Ive had mine for about 8 years and the two major things I did was new engine and rims/tires. The rest hasnt changed, but I have so many "to-do". But I figure 5 of those 8 years I was separated from it, so I figure if I think I only had it for 3, then I feel better! ha. Make sure you hit up the Newbie section and Member rides section with pics (everyone loves pics!)

Now I feel like a idgit- been here my whole life and never knew those guys existed.....I even asked around town about a chroming shop that can do a bumper and everyone said Mobile, Al was the closest town to have one and I was told that company over there couldnt chrome parts as big as a bumper
I will give them a call later this morning and see what they say.
THANKS!!

Cool, I actually found a company in Mobile, Ala (Precision Metal Company)that has worked a deal with one of his buddys somewhere in Georgia that can chrome larger items like my winch bumper. I sent him an email with pics of the bumper this morning by email and he is supposed to call me the first of next week with a price and a time lead.  This guy at Precision actually does chroming , but his tanks are too small to do my bumper....  This may be exactly what I was hoping for!!
Thank you for digging around, that was extremely helpful!!!

I got my quote from the guy in Mobile, Alabama today: his price on chroming the winch bumper AND the roller fairlead was $600.00. I asked him about doing just the bumper alone and he said $500.00. He added that they are pretty busy right now, so I need to expect a one month lead time. My response was " Congrats that you are THAT busy in this economy, that's the kind of problems to have!"
This was a little higher price than I had hoped for, but I feel that it is probably fair.......
Missed a complete unit with brush guard locally on Craig's List- found the ad this morning EARLY- called about it and was told that a man drove all the way down here from South Carolina and picked it up last night.....  selling price?, $150.00 COMPLETE!!!!!   Story of my life!
Looks like I will be headed to Mobile....

Thanks, Dennis- I actually saw that and got him to email me pics- it is a little rough and not EXACTLY what I am looking for... I can forward the email to you, if you like. I don't think it will work for me, but I can try to hook you up, I have his name and phone number.

I got a black Warntransformer from a guy in Robertsdale  a couple nights ago. I was looking for  a chrome one but I'm just going to have this one powered coated.

Where do you live in Pace? I have a buddy that just picked up a K20 we have been  to Butlers and Kikers every Saturday for the past month. Lots of good deals they have  lots of Cash For Clunkers .

I never thought about the Cash for Clunkers program- good idea! Who's gonna do your powder coating?  Jeff over at Thermodyne is a good guy. I have seriously thought about having mine done as well.
