1985 K 20 automatic
It's got a steering column from a safari van in it now, its too long. Even with the seat all the way back its too close and i can barely reach the pedals. I've read the previous posts about steering column swaps. They were all pretty much people who already had one and all the problems or lack there of, of installing them. Are these things almost universal? I need to swap out the one i have with one that is hopefully shorter but i need to retain any functionality it has and work with the existing wiring and power steering.
Suggestions?

I say just get another 1 from a pickup truck ..

well ya, but how specific do i have to be? just keep it within the 73-87 chevy/gmc and they will all swap and such?

84 is the earliest because the dimmer/windshield wiper controls are on the stalk.

also pay attention some diffrent years have diffrent plugs some longer some shorter and also cruse and the location of the wiper switch is at. i picked one from the junk yard for about 20 if i can remember right i know on my 86 it looks similar almost like you could just swap it out on my 94

I would just try to get one out of the same year truck you have, if possible. At my local junkyard, they got like 20 or 30 of 'em just hanging there, so maybe you won't have too much trouble.
