Title: 73 nose on my 81...Let's do it.
Post by: 327power on November 27, 2009, 01:26:16 am
Ok...I need to know exactly what I need in order to put this older, cooler front clip (1973) on my 1981 2WD. I know it's been asked and answered a million times, but I want to go through with it. I need everything from frame horn mods to wiper assembly swaps. Pictures would be magnificent.
Thanks!

Basically the opposite of this:

You will need to make mounts for the front of the bumper on the frame horns, and  you will need to modify the 73-80 wiper assm to bolt to your 81-87 cab.  Otherwise it is just a bolt on.  BTW, you need everything, hood, fenders, inner fenders, core support, bumper and brackets and wiper assm.

Thanks Capt! The only question I have now is what exactly needs to be done to the frame horns to mount up the 73' bumper?

Just the opposite of what you see, you may need to find a 73-80 frame and cut the front frame horns off and weld them to your frame you got.

thanks

basically what Pat posted.  Or get some flat stock and bend it and reinforce it for strength.

Do you think I could fab it up with a flux core welder? I got a Hobart 125 I think waiting for me when I get back home.
