87 silverado 350 tbi. Drove it to work and home yesterday and it was its usual self. Get in it today to go to work and just cranks. Its getting fuel but no spark so I figure ignition module. I have my wife stop at autozone and pick one up. Its a duralast brand. Put it on and it fires right up and I head to work. I notice right off a shudder or a cutting out. It only does it when you come to a stop and accelerate again. Could it possibly be that the new ignition module is faulty? Maybe I should replace the coil too? Let me know any ideas, like I said the day before it ran flawless

Check the pick up coil. Make sure the ignition module is connected good and seated properly. Make sure the cap and rotor look good. Ohm the coil while you are at it.
-
check for clean connections too. while you took everything off to change the mod you could of accidentally cleaned a contact and caused it to have contact

I took the ignition module out of my 89 k2500 and put it in the 87 and it will run flawless again with that module. So I took the new ignition module back to autozone and tell them its defective and I want to exchange it for a new one. Well they wanted to test it first and their machine says its good so they wont exchange it? Im pretty annoyed, Im going to try and exchange it at another autozone tomorrow. Jeremy

Explain how they tested it. Which ign module do you have?
-
the module tester is just like the set up on the dis. you have the two male connections on both ends that plug into the female connectors on the tester then, it test its self but it can't test what happens once the mod warms up. with all the mods i had go bad they usually don't cause a miss type problem they usually cut off once warm or not work at all
-
Tell them it starts to act up when the engine is up to operating temp.

autozones big problem is when people come in to buy something cause they don't know hat there problem is and then if it don't fix it they want to return it so they don't lose no money ex. someone comes in for a alt. they put it in only to find out it was just the battery now they want to return the alt. well i don't know about you but i wouldn't want to buy a part that has been installed and you can tell by grease and tq. marks from bolts being bolted down
-
Ya but i didnt want my money back I wanted to exchange it for a good one. A different autozone exchanged it with no hassles and Im all fixed now.
-
thats good to know. thats stupid they wouldn't exchange it for you. i could understand if you wanted money but just to swap them out yeah i would of did that if it was me
