Title: New from WV
Post by: adamk on December 05, 2009, 06:33:14 pm
WHats up guys. My name is Adam and I live in WV. I am an all around car guy, but have always been partial to having driver 73-87 Chevy trucks. I sold my nice 85 short wheel base step side not long ago, but recently bought an 81 regualar cab 2wd dually. I am in the process of getting started on this build. It will be lowered about 8 inches all the way around, loosing the 4 speed for a turbo 400, painting it the same green my grandmothers 72 was from the factory(pee green as I often hear it called), roll pan, cowl hood, 91 front end, clean mild custom interior, etc. Just wanted to drop an line to say hello. I will attach a pic of my old 85 and add pics of the dually as it comes along.

Just finishing up my parts gathering for the new truck. Have made some pretty good deal, lol. Traded an old set of Mickey Thompson big block chevy valve covers for perfect cab with perfect interior, and complete 91 front end. Suspension will be just lowered and conventional for now, but I will get the truck together, do a custom dash(my specialty), finish the interior, and drive it all year, then next winter I will do a complete one off suspension bagged at all four corners. It will be a little different baggin the dually as oposed to the 1/2 tons I am used to but It will just be doing the same old thing bigger. I kinda got a habit of modifying and molding old car dashes into my projects. I am very partial to the 59 and 60 chevy dashes. This truck will have a widened and molded 59 impala dash in it. I have two extra dashes and one will have to be lengthened in the center, but it will look good. I got a lot of buddies that love to work on cars so we will be hitting it hard and quick. Starting on the cab next week with a goal of one month to have all the sheetmetal painted and ready for reassembly.

59 dash

Takes a good bit of work to make these dashes work due to the outer contour and the way the ends slope down, but with a little sheetmetal work they turn out really nice. When clean up, molded, detrimmed, and painted body color they look sweet!

Here is another dash picture I found online that shows better how each gauge is in its own pod and sticks out. This is not my work only a pic I found online. I know this is kind of off topic, but it is what is on my mind about my truck right now. I am in a huge thinking process.
