Where is the best place to purchase a new or reman 350? I have seen and heard of some, but would like some reviews and/or opinions. Thanks!

I remember I called Dobles a few years ago for a price on a new GMPP 350/290HP. They said $1850 out the door, and they have them in stock. Maybe more money now, but worth a call.

That is a great deal for a crate engine. I looked it up though and its got like 9.5 to 1 compression which means I'd have to run 93 octane gas which is kinda expensive compared to the 87. Not that it's too much of an issue, but I need a crate 350 for my daily driver.
I also looked up Tuff Dawg engines and they have a 350 turn key engine ready to rock for like $4k. Sounded great online!
Right now the 350/260 Goodwrench crate looks really promising IMO. Only $1500.00 from Jegs! I figure if I get everything I need to get it running it shouldn't even touch $3k. Thanks.

Tuff Dawg engine 350 /440 hp for $2995 (free shipping, no core) --everything but a carb...440HP @ 5900rpm and 450ft lbs of torque @ 4400rpm this engine has a rough idle and will run on leaded or unleaded 91 Octane pump fuel....
This is an aggressive motor, but, he can build a milder one for same price without question.

If you are just looking for a good replacement engine and high power is not a top concern. This one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEV-350-325HP-L31-VORTEC-ENGINE-BY-TUFF-DAWG-ENGINES_W0QQitemZ160385066841QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2557b1e759) looks good, especially when you consider the free shipping. That 440hp engine SgtDel suggested might be more than you want to live with on a daily basis and if you are shooting for 400hp or less then Vortec heads are the best choice.
I would definitely go with an engine like that before going with a GM Goodwrench crate or the like, which are mass produced and slapped together. Not saying they are complete junk, but a custom built engine by a professional builder would be a much better choice. See what he would charge you for a complete turnkey based on that engine.

Pace offers great prices on GMPP crates as well a various aftermarket parts (sometimes beating Summit and Jegs by a mile). You should know, if you don't already, that engine is nothing more than a Goodwrench crate with a cam swap and an Edelbrock EPS manifold. I am running the EPS manifold on a stock Goodwrench and, let me tell you, it's nothing special. If you can be content with that level of power, then go for it. But if you are thinking you might want to build up the engine in the future, you'd be better off with another engine.
That engine's weakness lies mainly in the heads. They are junk for a performance engine, mainly due to a poor combustion chamber shape. I don't know why GM started making the 882 style head in the first place, because the earlier 186 and 041 heads were definitely superior and the tooling was already there. Starting with an engine with Vortec heads would serve you well all the way to the 400-425hp mark.

I think that the GM 350/300 should be plenty of fun in my stepside. Especially with a manual trans. I've never even had an engine that powerful before, so it is definitely something to look forward to. Yeah, I bet the heads aren't the greatest, but I can save up more dough after next deployment to buy some awesome cylinder heads later if deemed nessesary. I think the most powerful engine I've owned was a mildly modified Buick 350. Ran outstanding.

I know, man. I will let everyone know how the crate 350 works out! Should be lots of fun! Actually, the only thing that might stop me is if I get a 292 for free that runs great. I'd take off the head and bring it to a reputable machine shop to get it modified(1.90 intake valve, 1.50 exhaust valve, mild porting, etc). Then again, you can't beat the sound of a good V8!

Thank you, fitz. I should be home at some point between now and the middle of the month! Yeah, I did think about a lot of different kinds of engines, but I stuck with the Pace Performance 350...now I just have to decide which one! I'm kinda torn between the 350/290 and the higher output models. This engine is going in my stepside, so it needs to run on today's crappy gasoline. I managed to save a stack of dough while I've been stuck out here, so the possibilities are all over the place!
