Title: Code Reader
Post by: Tazman on December 07, 2009, 12:22:57 pm
I like to do all the work on my truck as possible as a result I have the factory manuals for it and they are a great help.I have been thinking about getting a code reader so I do not have to take it anywhere to find the problem.Does anyone know if that is worth it or not? Thanks

You don't need a code reader.  All you need to do is jumper the A and B pins (top right slots) of the ALDL connector, turn on the ignition switch to run and count the flashes.  It always starts with 12 and flashes every number 3 times.

auto zone used to have a key that you can plug in to the connector to do the same thing. they would just give them away. i always had one on my key ring. maybe they still have 'em. although a wire or paper clip work just fine too.
