Title: My fuel injected car is flooded??
Post by: Layne on December 07, 2009, 04:14:51 pm
and the battery was dead. Today I went to fire up my car; I do every week; and the battery was dead. I jumped it and amidst all the start up smoke there was lot's of black smoke and it died. Tried it a few more times and I got it to run with my foot into it. Lots of black smoke. Last night i was outside and bumped into the car and it sounded like the fuel pump was running nonstop. I though nothing of it because I thought maybe I shook the gas up a little.  Anyway after I let it run for a while, I shut it off and the fuel pump pressurized the line and shut off. I just started it and ran it and it's fine now. Is this a fluke???  83 chevy citation tbi 2.5L

I have seen fuel pump relays been stuck before, not shutting off.

One of them "hit it with a hammer things?" It bugs me because it always seems I put money into it and then something else goes bad. It drives me nuts, as my great grandfather bought it brand new and when he died I kinda wanted to restore it in memory of him. Projects are never finished I guess. Lol

I got my grandparents 1979 AMC Concord.  Set out to do the same thing, it had 24K on it.  Changed my mind and sold it.  The guy who bought it from me contacted me around a year later to tell me it is in an AMC museum in Colorado.  Go figure...

Yea, about 30 degrees today. Maybe 20 something last night. Relays are pretty simple to replace, just gotta find it. Anybody know where it is?

* UPDATE *
Started right up today, (2days later) without a problem. Listened for the pump to shut off and it did. Fluke I suppose
