Title: Catalytic converter heat shield
Post by: chronos on December 15, 2009, 08:21:22 pm
Do I need to keep this on? Any problems if I just take it off and trash it?
Mine is all loose and broken up

This is not on the converter itself but the big flat piece that bolts to the frame
Thanks

I rip all mine out, but the cat emits extreme heat. Use your discretion.

I would keep it, there is alot of heat coming off a cat.  But as Layne stated, it is up to you.

Maybe try some self tapping screws in it and see if you can't quiet it down first. If GM didn't think it was necessary, you can bet they sure would not have put them on.
