I know it is not directly related to this forum but. What I am tiring to figure out is will a throttle body off of a 2001 5.3 work on a 03 5.3. The Difference between the two is the 01 is cable operated and the 03 is electronic operated. I know the base gasket is the same. so the bolt pattern is the same.

You can switch the throttle bodies.

Thanks. Good to know.

Will it need a new harness and ecm as well? I am curious because the three that I bought have the cable, and after thinking about it, i think the throttle by wire system would be easier to install. Also, not to steal the thread, but I didnt want to start a new onefor one question, but I bought a 4l60e out of an 01 S10. Will I have any problems using it on my 5.3?

the only thing about using the cable throttle body is you will delete the wire's for the electric one. But the cable one is better

The cable will be MUCH easier, the drive by wire ECM will work with the cable setup.
You have to retrofit a pedal assembly into the truck to use the drive by wire.
What motor was in the S10? It will physically bolt up, Vile can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think they were built as strong as a comparable trans in a V8.

Thanks Capt, the S10 had the 4.3 in it. I figure it will bolt up, but was just curious if it was the same tranny as the full size pickups, or a weaker version. I got it for $300 with about 60k miles on it. So far Im at $650 for a complete 5.3/4l60e setup.

I think the S10 got the "60" version and the fullsize started getting the "65", but you should be ok. What is it going in Chop?
-
Its going in my tan 86. I dont want a hotrod, just a good reliable cruiser. I figure if the 305 moves the truck good with 160hp or ?? then, the stock 285 Hp 5.3 should do great.

You should be fine.
