We got a bad snow here in new York yesterday. I got stuck nose down on a hill turning around,So I got out locked the hubs and put it in low 4 to back out. I heard a loud bang and when i unlocked hubs and and put it back in 2 wheel, It feels like I'm driving with 4 wheel on or worse, like the e brake is fully engaged. RPM's are way up and and the truck is working way to hard to get anywere. Any advice on what this could be would REALY be appreciated. Thanks guys. Oh Ya Its an 85 k10 pick up with a Good Wrench 350.

What transfer case do you have? Check the linkage
-
Its deep in snow at the moment ,But I'm pretty sure its a 208.It lies almost flat to floor in hi 2 and straight up in low 4. I did'nt think it was link. because it still feels like it is shifting in and out. But it drives the same in 4 drive or 2 drive. Thanks for any info, you guys brob. know better than me. Before this 4x4 I always had vans.

If the linkage is working fine then check the fluid level in the case.
-
I just went out to drive it down the road and when i switch the lever from 2hi to 4 hi, there is no diference in drive. I want to go check that level now, could you tell me were the fill is on that case. Thanks VileZambonie, Its dark and about 8 degrees out there.

It's wicked cold here too -4°F with this wind. I'd leave it stuck too lol

OK,I shoveled a tunnel under my truck(Its like being in an igloo under there),Linkedge is rusty but still looks good no extra play or anything. It IS a 208 aluminum. Is the filler bolt the large one right at the rear by the drive shaft . If it is I'll put some gear oil by the heater tonight so it doesn't take 2 hours to put in tomarrow. It looks like a possibility there seems to be a little gear oil on the case,Thanks Bro.

The top plug (30mm I think), it takes Dexron ATF not gear oil.
-
Man you just saved my butt, The guy at auto zone sold me gear oil for it. Told me tranny and transfer use same stuff. Thanks
-
If the trans is an automatic he would be correct.
-
Nope standard and if it was auto. wouldn't you use trany fluid. ???
-
Yeah, that is what ATF is.
-
Capt, I think he's thinking you're agreeing with the Autozone guy.
Regardless of the trans the NP208 takes Dexron ATF
