went to take the wheels of my 82 1/2 ton 4x4 and the lug nut just spins and will not back off any tips on removing
-
try to tightened it with an impact to see if it will grab any splines left in the lug, and then try to take it off with the impact. Is it on a steel wheel, or aluminum?
-
its a steel rim i will give that a try when it warms up i got about 5 that won't come off
-
Sounds like you might have the lugs that have the cheap chrome cover over a steel lug.
If this is the case you will have to rip the cover off and then you can loosen the lugs.
-
nope i got the open end type
-
you could try to break it off, put a socket w/ extension or a 4 way then step on it till it breaks or give it a shot with a hammer but you might hit the rim with that
-
Suppose you could use a nut splitter as a last resort..... I'd try the tighten-loosen trick first.
-
if all else fails, and you suspect the stud to be stripped, you could drill it out...
-
i know i said this before but you could take off all the lug nuts and drive it till the wheel falls off. ::) j/k the nut breaker sounds like a good ideal. there was a nother form on here i forget what its subject was but they took a grinder i think to the wheel
