Title: Earthquake
Post by: bigfosty on January 11, 2010, 05:47:34 am
Had ourselves a little 6.5 shaker on the richter scale the other day, thought some of you might enjoy this video from one of the local store. Kind of cool if you've never experienced one.

back in ought three i experienced an earthquake here in central VA while I was on, of all places, a dentist chair.

I was sittin on the dentist chair, while the dentist had a drill in his hand doing what he gets paid to do.  He was going to town on my tooth when all of the sudden the chair shaked.  The dentist looked up at his assistant and stated, "did you kick the chair?"  The assistant said no.

He turned the drill off, placed it down, walked out into the hall and asked if that was an earthquake.  Then, over the radio that was playing, it was confirmed.  I'm sure glad that dentist lifted his hand with the drill when the chair first shook.  BTW, it was a 4.5 on the richter scale.

as a kid here in New Hampshaa I have felt a 5.5. Think it was 82 or 83. Then about ten years ago we had a minor one, think it was 2.5 or so.

in school they would tell us to eather hide under a desk or get against the walls in the hall way and cover our heads but that was against an air strike

i saw that youtube video the next day on the news and i couldn't beleive the amt of people running out into the outside where building exterior walls, bricks, signs, post lights, etc..come tumbling down during earthquakes....why run outside?  They build bldgs in CA nowadays to withstand certainr standards.  Stay inside and up next to one of the cashier counters and duck!  Why run outside? I couldn't beleive that.
