Title: 3/4 ton control arms
Post by: Torque454 on January 12, 2010, 11:50:33 pm
Are there bushings in the 3/4 ton control arms? I don't see any in the control arms I took off of an 86 3/4 ton, it looks like its all solid. I would think there would have to be a bearing or something in there if nothing more. Its very different from my 79 1/2 ton control arms for sure.

I am planning on using this 3/4 ton suspension under my 79 1/2 ton and would like to atleast replace the bushings if there are any.

So there are bushings in there but cant see them without taking the control arm shaft out of the control arm?

its been a while since i worked on a 4x2 or even been under one but i think you have the bolts with a washer and the washer covers them "i think"

The nuts on the left of your pic are the bushings.  The only rubber in the front end of a 3/4 ton are the sway bar bushings.  on the 3/4 ton, the shaft actually turns in the threads as the suspension works.  they can be tricky to put together because the bushings thread onto the shaft AND into the control arm.  and when you get done the shaft should turn freely.  I don't know how to tell you how to do it.  I can't remember exactly now, but it took some playing with it to get it right.
