Finally pullin my motor tomorrow! I can't wait to learn how to tear it down and put it back together!!! And I have a lot of new parts comin from Summit, it's like Christmas all over again! ;D
-
congrats!
-
i think im in love ::)
-
you typed that at 12:01am...is that tomorrow today, or tomorrow tomorrow? :o
you got the right attitude...it's like putting together a puzzle---a puzzle with a torque wrench. You'll get great satisfaction of doing it yourself too, and drive it with pride.
The crankshaft bone is connected to the connecting rod bone, the connecting rod bone is connected to the piston bone, the piston bone is connected to the rings bone...

lol

Why can't all girls be like you?

Why can't all girls be like you?
I have 5 of them in my house and not one of them care about cars, let alone my truck!!!
-
Sweet, like said before, there is something about doing it yourself that makes it so much better later on when its cruising down the road.
-
Why can't all girls be like you?
Them Texas gals are are quite different, I should have stayed in Crockett.

LOL!!! Yall crack me up.. I love that song sgtdel, should be the gearhead anthem or somethin!!! hahah!
Well today I pretty much got the motor ready to come out, only thing holdin it in there is the tranny of course and then the motor mounts. Ran out of daylight, wish I had a shop.. Ordered some things from Summit, got that this mornin and now I'm just waitin on my valve covers. They're chrome with "Chevrolet" and a red bowtie. But tomorrow its comin out! (Sunday). Here's some pictures of today, I will post more as we get further along!! Thanks for the support guys! ;D

Two things, get rid of that edelbrock carb and then toss that POS flex fan before it comes apart and takes out the radiator.
-
Ya the flex flan is definitely gone for sure. I hate those things... But the carb will have to stay til I get more money down the line LoL.
-
Awesome! Keep us updated on your build!
What is that gray panel over your heater box area? (left of your shoulder)
-
Heater core mustve been bad, looks like they took the entire cover off..
thanks
pat
-
That's where that big honker of a box for the a/c and heater goes... This truck was in process of being a frame off resto.. It used to be a 2wd longbed. The guy took off the body, chopped the frame, powdercoated it, all new body mounts etc and so on. So there is no rust on my truck anywhere, it's nice! So I guess he took all that stuff off, i dunno.. But I have that big black box thats sposed to go there... LOL
I will keep yall posted :)
-
i like the flex fan, but would take an electric over one. i know they say they don't give you any benefit cause they always spin and a clutch will only be active if it gets to hot but they sound cooler lol, back when i first started working on chevys i even put one on backwards and it never came apart found out it was on backwards so i reversed it and it was still going strong. but anyway love the truck

What's wrong w/ that carb? Those valve covers are pretty (retro hot-rod) cool, IMO.
-
Nothing is wrong with that carb. Nothing is wrong with Flex Fans either as long as you periodically inspect them for cracking around the rivets and ensure the bolts and mounts are properly tightened. Thread locker should always be used too. Older flex fans were prone to cracking especially if it was seasoned in the rust belt.
-
Junkyard qjet is cheap and gets you better power and mileage with a cheap rebuilt and cleaning.
-
Ya I dont mind the carb really, but the fan is goin. LoL.
Irish_alley, mine's not a stick lol, if thats what ur referrin to- I have a Lokar shifter in there... Its an auto. Love ur truck btw!
Beastie_3, Yeah, I do plan to put A/C on there soon. Especially before this Texas summer! lol, but thanks for the link!
Everyone else, I'm out. Time to go get greasy! ;D ;D

Well the motor is ready to come out. Bought an engine stand today. Only thing holdin the motor in is the engine mounts. Monday will reveal the internals of the motor and hopefully everything is O.K. The guy that had this motor put together all weird. In one of the vacuum lines he had a stick (like off a tree) stuck in there to block it off. He had hoses hooked up that didn't even go into anything, and bolts that were half screwed in. I'm kinda glad I had problems with this motor or else I'da never known! Here's the valve covers that I ordered.. Should be here sometime this week. I will take pics tommorrow! Later guys! 8)

Very nice!
-
Looks good! hopefully you won't find any more surprises in the motor
-
Anyways, could you please describe in great detail how you took the fender off? i need to know this kind of thing so i can get to my engine easier.

I'm guessing once she took the hood off and removed some bolts it kind of slid off with some force ;D
yeah i thought your truck was a stick lol just another let down lol but anyway chrome dress up kit or you just adding those covers? reading your post i wish i had better weather to work on my truck, but anyway a stick are you serous lol should of at least put a bolt in
-
Yeah it had been really cold and rainy here for the past few months so the truck had to just sit there, but all this week it's sposed to be sunny and warm. 70 degrees on Thursday! It's nice. LoL, yeah, it's not a standard sorry LoL but I like the look of that Lokar shifter.... It's pretty cool. And I just bought those valve covers for the time bein off of Ebay for 46.00 When they are 65.00 on Summit. But Yeah he had a twig stuck off in that hose... lol... Weird.
Yeah, all u do is start takin out bolts and take the hood off, headlight bezel, and then fender well, then the fender. It's easy!

I've been running those carbs for over 20 years now. Nothing but good luck with them.
I vote on you keeping it.
Thats a great truck you have.
Keep us posted with your progress.
-
Have had several of those carbs and they were all JUNK!
-
Are you referring to the Edelbrock/Carter AFB Blazin? You can't get much simpler and easier to tune than one of those.
-
OOH, a carb debate. Which is better than the other, and why?
-
If it ain't broke don't fix it! if the carb works leave it.
-
I'd get either a Holley, Edelbrock or Q-jet. ;D
-
come to my house...i have a shop you can use...LOL
-
OK cowgirl i now hate you, lol. i finally got outside even tho its still wet changed the oil in both my trucks. then i don't know what happend next. my door poppers burnt up in the fall never got a chance to replace or fix them so i finally took that on. popped the hood and saw what a mess the wires were. started cutting and clipping cut all the only popper's wires out a little burnt, reran the wench wires to be more out of site also reran the spark plug wires under the headers. thats about as far as i got also removed so wires that were just sitting there. took some pics but they are on my phone right now will post, still not done yet tho haven't even touched the new poppers
-
o yeah it does look a little better, but here I am at work in uniform looking sharp and my hands are still stained with dirt and oil ::). Also the truck seams to be running a little better due to re doing the timing when I rerouted the plug wires
-
Hahahaha sounds like u had a fun day! ;D
-
yeah no thanks to someone ::)
-
How is it my fault? LOL I'm an innocent angel..... o:-)
-
cause you inspired me to go out side and work on my truck, innocent angel lmao you drive a Chevy truck right ;D
-
LoL! yeah I'm an angel. hahahaha. You know it! I can't wait to tear my motor down tomorrow! my parts pile is gettin bigger and chrome-ier. Haha. I wanna put it all on! Takin my heads to get those cleaned and repainted also. YAY!
-
i had a lift kit just sitting in the garage for 5 years before putting it on my truck, just always walked by it and i would say next week, felt good to finally put it on
