Title: Any fans of the Military pick ups/blazers?
Post by: fitz on January 18, 2010, 10:54:13 am
As I mentioned in a recent post that I just got a 84 M1028 military truck.
Well I just found out that somemore of these trucks are comming up for auction in Mass.
Looks like they have some M1008 and M1028 pick ups and a few M1009 blazers.
I'm going there to look for a blazer.
My guess is that these will sell in the $1500-$2000 range (I paid $1500 for mine)
If anyone needs more info let me know.

I almost scored two of the Blazers a few years ago. I converted a few of them to 12V systems for the fire dept in Palmer I believe. They were supposed to hook me up and ended up screwing me over on the deal. Anyway if there's some that aren't rot boxes post pix.

They kind of frown on taking pics of the Government vehicles.
I got a chance to check a few of them out. While they are not 100% rust free
southern trucks they are real solid for NewEngland Vehicles.
Most of the pick ups had under 50K miles on them, the blazers seemed to have 65-90K on them. I figure if I can grab  blazer for around $2k I will add 1 more to the fleet.

I am considering trying to find an M-1008, or M-1028.

I wouldn't mind paying a little more for one that is totally rust free. When I find the right one I intend on making it my daily driver, so a little extra chachingy won't matter. It has to look good......Well good for an ex-military vehicle.

Most of the M-1008/M1028s that I see that come straight from the Gov't have around 40,000 original miles on them.  8)

Like I mentioned, these are not 100% rust free trucks, but they are pretty solid compared to most of the rot boxes we see around here.
I'm not trying to convince anyone from the warmer/rust free states to come to Mass to buy one of these. I just figured if anyone local is lookind for decent trucks for cheap money these are worth checking out.
This is the one I just picked up for $1500 with 47K on it. It runs and drives great (so far). A few years ago Dana 60's alone were worth almost as much.
If I can score a Blazer in the same shape for the same $$ I will be happy.

Big fan of the pickups :)

I'm currently fabricating an excuse to explain to Wifey why I need a M1028 along with my V-3500 Crew Cab 4wd.

Tell her it is so she won't have to refer to you as her "ex" husband.

He He. J/K, I guess I am lucky, I tell my wife that I am buying another truck, and she just rolls her eyes.  ;D

It's the other 20 cars that have me in trouble 21 might just push her over the edge.

Whitfield, thats quite a collection. Those Sammy's could be fun. I had one for a short time a few years ago. It was a beater that I took in on a trade.

Engineer, I've just started following your M1028 thread. Do you still plan on unsing the chassis for the blue truck? Hows your M1009 running? Hopefully I'll get one this week.
