Well, truth be told I'm not totally new to the site. I have already tapped the knowledge of this great site with a couple pre-buying questions and according to the counter logged nearly 14 hours on the site reading.
But, now I can officially say I have in my garage (barely) a 1985 K20 LWB 4X4, 350ci 4spd sitting on 33/10.50/R16 ProComp Xterrains with a grand total of only 145k miles on it. Its to dark and the weather is to bad for me to get pics at the moment. I hope to update this thread tomorrow with some; weather permitting. The garage is to small and cluttered at the moment to get any pics worth sharing.
I live in the Crescent City CA area on the coast about 15 minutes from the OR border. So when I said the true north, I meant it. This is my second Chevy truck but my first full size, and first 4x4. I'm almost 32 and until now the timing and money just never worked out for me.
Before I really am able to get into fixing it up I need to finish getting to pass the sniffer. A tune up, oil change, carb adjustment, and installing the smog pump (that I already have) should be all I need now. Its got a straight rust free body and by the time it passes smog I will only be in it for about $1,300 not counting DMV fees (paid them today, $211.00, ouch).
Well off to work, just thought I would check in and officially say hi.
**UPDATE**
I took these pics today, This is exactly as I picked it up. No clean up, I took nothing out of the bed. I like to take some good 'as I got it' pics so I can see just how far I have come. When I get a chance I will clean out the bed and what not but I just wanted to show exactly what I got for $1,000.

And finally the only rust I can find. Passenger side floor board. I have a friend that will weld in the replacement panel when I get it:

I tried this a few years back on a mildly tweaked 13 second Honda Accord. Using my sisters address in Brookings OR setting it up to look like I was selling it to her and when I was puled over I said I had just done a repo for lack of payment. $2400 in fines later (had to sell my race wheels and tires to pay it leaving my car on blocks) I learned my lesson. They got me for fraudulent insurance and registration, $1200 for each. And I missed a total of 3 days of work for court
Besides its not going to be a big deal to do it right. On the other hand, I will get some pics going as soon as I can

Very nice. $1000? I'd pay more than that.

Thanks,
I was offer $2,000 when passes smog. Thanks but no thanks. I'm pumped about this rig. I'm finding lots of little things that need attention but so far outside of the tune up nothing that will keep it from going down the road, and nothing really expensive. Just fun project type stuff. I would love to have the time, money, and space to do a frame off but thats just not possible right now so I will be doing the best I can with what I have.
This rig is going to be built into a weekend warrior and occasional DD. It won't be a show truck. I plan on using it for camping, wood cutting, fishing and so on. But, it will look good while doing it when I'm done.
