Title: Trans Fluid
Post by: Maintenanceman on January 20, 2010, 02:11:42 pm
Ok guys need a little help here. I went to autozone to pick up some gear oil for the front and rear differentials and I was going to pick up some more for my 4 spd Manual trans and some ATF for my transfer case but they couldnt tell me how much I needed at autozone for a complete drain and refil on both the trans and transfer case. So my question it what is the capacity of the Trans for 80w gear oil and what is the capacity of the transfer case and do I just use Dexron ATF?

Oh yea,

1985 K20 with 4 spd manual.

Absolutely empty?  You need 4 quarts, fill it until it is just below the fill hole.  If you can stick your finger in there, bend it and get oil on you finger you are good.  It should be about 3.5 quarts total.

What transfercase?
The NP208 which would be stock for a 85 is about 4.5quarts, but again, fill till it comes it is a little below the fill hole..

If you are just draining it 3-4 on both.
