I have seats out of an 84 ss monte carlo they are blue but i was going to use duplicolors interior paint to paint them black. Do you think that it would look good in an 81 stepside ?
-
From what I've read on this site the interior dye doesn't hold up well on surfaces that get rubbed a lot. I'm not sure I've seen anyone do a seat. I guess you could try and use seat covers if it fails. I'm pretty sure I know what those seats look like and I think they'd look good. Maybe post a pic. if that's possible.

sorry i cant post a pic but i dont remember what show i was watching wether it was trucks or two guys garage but they used that paint on el camino seats and it looked great
-
Maybe I assumed too much...are these cloth seats?
-
I'm not sure about how it would wear. You can try it, but once it's done, it's done. At worst if it doesn't hold up you'll have to reapply the stuff again where ever it rubbed off.
-
I would suggest that if you try it only where black clothes until you know weather its going to rub off or not. If nothing else you might start a new fad to go along with those pre dirtied pants and faded shirts that seem to be taking over all the clothing stores.
If it works it would be cool though.

Just a thought but what about seat covers until you are able to have them recovered

That show was Trucks and he painted the leather and cloth on the seats they did, dont know how well its held up but it looked realy good when they did it on the show.
-
Hot rod show also did it, i bellieve on the budget build up show
-
well im sure gonna try it and if it dont work, ill just get seat covers ill be sure to let you guys know what happens

I tried using the color on an old s10 seat i had and i had TERRIBLE results. It looks great and doesnt get super stiff but after sitting in the seat a few times in my shop and wriggling around i have found that the paint does in fact come off. I wouldnt recommend this you should either get seat covers or have them recovered. This paint would work on a dash or maybe a door panel something that isnt touched often. However i'd recommend just buying new interior then trying to paint and dye the old.

I used some on some carpeted floor mats and it didnt last a week

I know its crap if you ask me
